Milwaukee Film
Per their mission, Milwaukee Film is a nonprofit arts organization dedicated to entertaining, educating, and engaging the community through cinematic experiences. For their re-brand, I worked closely with the team to capture the essence of what Milwaukee is: hard-working, creative, blue collar, resilient.
2011 Milwaukee Film Festival
For my first campaign working for the Milwaukee Film Festival, Milwaukee Film wanted to explore what makes the city special. I started by illustrating our city’s iconic buildings and businesses and showing the team my sketches. It was a success, and they had me illustrate more. I enjoy doodling and was quite thrilled they wanted me to continue. Below is a small sample of the many deliverables for the film festival (more of which you will see as you scroll campaigns below).
2012 Milwaukee Film Festival
The Oriental Theatre in Milwaukee is truly a sight to behold. Much like a film, once you enter the Oriental Theatre, it feels like you are stepping into another world. For this year’s festival, I wanted to illustrate the beauty I saw every time I visited that theatre to see a film.
2013 Milwaukee Film Festival
With a few campaigns under my belt, I talked with Milwaukee Film about how great it would be to get our amazing local artists involved with the campaign. For the 2013 season, we got Kristopher Pollard on board to draw some hilarious images of children in classic movie scenes with the tagline, “All of the (fill in the blank) You’d Expect from a 5-Year Old.”
2015 Milwaukee Film Festival
For the 2015 campaign, I wanted to keep moving forward with highlighting Milwaukee artists. Milwaukee Film agreed, and we worked with photographer Mark Brautigam and writer Jay Sanders for this season. Our goal was to create various “film stills” that could be combined in a number of ways to create different stories. With these various “scenes” placed all over the city, viewers could come up with their own movie scripts in anticipation for the festival.
2016 Milwaukee Film Festival
For this campaign, I wanted to work with an artist that could add some wild and dreamy ideas of what Milwaukee is as a city and a community. Gabriela Riveros delivered. From the literal cheesehead on a towel to the Lake Michigan mermaids (and so much more!), this was a truly fun, colorful, and vibrant campaign to work on.
